Fall 2009 Coaching Courses

T-CYSA is hosting the following coaching courses at the T-CYSA Soccer Complex in Pasco this fall.

Class Cost Date Time Location Instructor Register By
U6 free Sat 8/29 9:00-11:30am T-CYSA Soccer Complex Greg Thomas OPEN

General Information

To pass a course, you must attend the entire course. These are participatory courses, so come dressed and ready to play. Bring a notepad, pen, water, and a soccer ball. Brief descriptions of the courses appear below.

Cost

For courses requiring a fee, checks (made payable to "T-CYSA") will be collected at the start of the course. T-CYSA coaches do not need to submit checks because T-CYSA pays the fee for them.

How to Register

WSYSA now requires us to use Bonzi online registration for all the coaching classes we host. To register for a coaching class, perform the following steps:

  1. Go to the Bonzi registration page.
  2. If you already have a T-CYSA Bonzi account, click the "YES, I already have a member account" or "I FORGOT my account information" radio buttons and login. If you do not have a T-CYSA Bonzi account, click the "NO, I do not have a member account" radio button, then create an account and login.
  3. In the "Would you like to Register one of these participants?" section on the "Registration for U6-U8-U10 Modules" page, click the radio button next to your name, then click the "Next" button.
  4. In the "Select a category" section, click the radio button next to the class you wish to register for, then click the "Next" button.
  5. In the "Enter Course Information" section, enter any required information that is missing, then click the "Next" button.
  6. On the "Registration Payment Summary" page, click the "Back" button if you need to change any information or click the "Finish" button to complete the registration.

PLEASE REGISTER EARLY! If less than a minimum number of coaches register by the "Register By" date listed above, WSYSA will cancel the course.

If enough people register early enough to meet the minimum enrollment requirement, the "Register By" column will show "OPEN" and you can continue to register after the original "Register By" date; you can even register on site when the class starts if there are spots available. If the class fills up before it starts, the "Register By" column will show "FULL".

Questions

Contact the T-CYSA VP of Development if you have questions about the coaching clinics.

T-CYSA Hosted Courses

The table below shows the coaching courses T-CYSA usually hosts each year and when they typically occur.

Class When
U6 late August
U8 late February, late August
U10 late February, late August
E late March
D late April

The U6, U8, and U10 coaching courses are strongly recommended for all coaches at the younger levels.

  • U6 Certificate Course (2.5 hours)

This course is designed to provide the first-time parent/coach of 5 year olds with information on creating a beneficial soccer environment. The course addresses the specific characteristics of this age group and presents activities and games that are developmentally appropriate.

  • U8 Certificate Course (2.5 hours)

This course is designed to provide the parent/coach of 7 year olds with information on creating a beneficial soccer environment. The course addresses the specific characteristics of this age group and presents activities and games that are developmentally appropriate.

  • U10 Certificate Course (2.5 hours)

This course is designed to provide the parent/coach of 9 year olds with information on creating a beneficial soccer environment. The course addresses the specific characteristics of this age group and presents activities and games that are developmentally appropriate.

The Three Rivers Soccer Club strongly urges anybody wanting to coach at the Premier or District Select levels to complete the E and D coaching courses. For more information regarding these and other advanced clinics, see the state or national websites.

  • E Certificate Course (18 hours)

The emphasis of the E course is on coaching players 10-14 years of age. It is a general certificate of 11-a-side play and is intended for those coaches who are in the transitional stage from coaching modified soccer to coaching 11v11 soccer. The course is best suited for those coaches with several years of experience or who have attended one or more of the youth module courses.

The E course focuses on coaching points and the teaching of technique, with an introduction to the Principles of Play (attack and defense). The E course also provides elementary information on the management and preparation of a team.

The E course requires one weekend: Friday night and all day Saturday and Sunday.

  • D License Course (36 hours)

Note: You must have passed the E class in order to attend the D class, unless you meet certain criteria and apply for an E license waiver from WSYSA.

The attendees of a D course fall into two distinct categories: coaches who are using the course to prepare for the National C License and those who are using the course to qualify for a particular level of coaching. Many of the latter are not required to further upgrade their license. In addressing coaches in these two categories, the D course can be seen as either preparatory or terminal.

The D course is for coaching players 14-18 years of age and emphasizes observing mistakes and providing information to correct the mistakes. A majority of the course schedule is devoted to practice coaching and practical examinations. Candidates are examined by the analysis of video footage for their knowledge and understanding of tactics and methodology. There are also take-home examinations on soccer injury prevention and the FIFA Laws of the Game.

Based on how well they do in the D License course, candidates are awarded either a National D License, which allows them to attend a National C License course after a year, or a State D License. If a State D License is earned, the D License course can be retaken by coaches interested in obtaining a National C License.

The D course requires two consecutive weekends: Friday night and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Other Courses

Coaching courses are also available from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
