T-CYSA Three Rivers Premier Program
For the U11-U13 age groups,
also see the description of the
Premier Development League.
The Washington State Youth Soccer Association
administers the Washington State Premier League
(WSPL),
which provides the highest level of competition
and player development in the state.
Qualification
With the exception of U13 teams,
WSPL teams must qualify annually to play in the league.
All U13 teams are automatically placed in a single Division I.
All U14 teams must participate in a
League Placement Tournament (LPT)
to determine which division/level they will play in
(Division I, II, III, WSYDL, or District).
U15 and older teams not seeded
by their previous season's record
must participate in an LPT to determine
if they qualify for placement in Division III.
The LPT is traditionally held the first three weekends in June
at various sites throughout the state.
Tournaments
Premier teams are expected to play
in several (usually 2-4) tournaments
in the spring and summer.
Tournament locations may include
Pasco,
Yakima,
Spokane,
Seattle,
Portland,
Boise,
etc.
Tournaments provide wonderful developmental opportunities
for our players and coaches,
and should be viewed as an important team building activity.
Teams should fundraise to help offset
tournament and travel expenses.
League Play
Premier teams play in the statewide WSPL in the fall.
The WSPL season runs from September through mid-December;
teams U15 and below usually finish by mid-November.
League games may be played on both Saturdays and Sundays,
with some doubleheaders involving overnight stays.
For teams U15 and older,
most games are played on Sundays.
WSPL teams play 14 games in their season:
7 home games and 7 away games.
Home games are played at the
T-CYSA Soccer Complex in Pasco.
Away games require travel throughout the state.
Saturday games are usually scheduled in the afternoon
and Sunday games in the morning,
thus requiring only one night of lodging per away weekend.
Expect 3-4 away trips in the fall league.
We strongly encourage players and parents to organize carpools
to minimize travel costs.
State Cup
Premier teams are expected to compete
in either the State Championship Cup
or the Challenge Cup
held in January through March.
Participation typically involves one or two practices
and one game per week during Cup play.
Games usually require travel throughout the state.
Teams winning the State Championship Cup
advance to the Region IV Championship held in late June.
Commitment
Playing on a Premier team
requires a significant commitment
from the players and their parents,
including:
- Increased number and duration of training sessions.
- Several tournaments during spring and summer.
- Playing time during games and tournaments is determined by coach, and is NOT guaranteed.
- Significant travel for league play and tournaments.
- Uniforms, bags, warm-ups, league fees, etc.
- Team fees to cover field rental, travel on buses, equipment, etc.
- Teams are required to cover travel expenses for non-parent coaches.
