T-CYSA Three Rivers PDL Program
The Washington State Youth Soccer Association's District 4
administers the Premier Development League (PDL),
which provides the highest level of competition
and player development in the state
for the U11-U15 age groups.
The PDL has expanded its programs,
incorporating the U15 age group
into the fall 2008 and spring 2009 season.
Clubs are ranked based on their teams' performances
in league and state cup,
and must have a USSF A or B licensed Coaching Director
leading their program.
The top-ranked 20 clubs in the state represent the PDL.
Tournaments
PDL teams will play
in several (usually 3-4) tournaments
in the late spring and summer.
Tournament locations may include
Pasco,
Yakima,
Spokane,
Seattle,
Portland,
Boise,
etc.
Tournaments provide wonderful developmental opportunities
for our players and coaches,
and should be viewed as an important team building activity.
Teams should fundraise to help offset
tournament and travel expenses,
and carpool whenever possible.
League Play
PDL teams play in the statewide PDL in the fall.
The PDL season runs from September through mid-November.
League games may be played on both Saturdays and Sundays,
with some doubleheaders involving overnight stays.
PDL teams will probably play 10 games in their fall season.
Home games are played at the
T-CYSA Soccer Complex in Pasco.
Away games require travel throughout the state.
Saturday games are usually scheduled in the afternoon
and Sunday games in the morning,
thus requiring only one night of lodging per away weekend.
Expect approximately 3 away trips in the fall league.
The PDL recently approved a formal spring league,
starting in 2009,
in addition to the fall league.
The format for the spring will be very similar
to the format for the fall.
More details will be posted as they become known.
State Cup
PDL teams are expected to compete
in either the State Championship Cup
or the Challenge Cup;
starting in 2009,
these tournaments will be held in April and May.
Participation typically involves one or two practices
and one game per week during Cup play.
Games usually require travel throughout the state.
Teams winning the State Championship Cup
advance to the Region IV Championship held in late June.
Commitment
Playing on a PDL team
requires a significant commitment
from the players and their parents,
including:
- Increased number and duration of training sessions.
- Tournament play during spring and summer.
- Playing time during games and tournaments is determined by coach, and is NOT guaranteed.
- Significant travel for league play and tournaments.
- Uniforms, bags, warm-ups, league fees, etc.
- Team fees to cover field rental, travel on buses, equipment, etc.
- Teams are required to cover travel expenses for non-parent coaches.
